Performance Evaluation of UWB Sensor Network with Aloha Multiple Access Scheme

The performance of a multi-hop Ultrawideband (UWB) sensor network based on Aloha multiple access technique is evaluated in terms of the average link outage probability and the overall network throughput for different coverage radius of the UWB sensor device. The architecture of the considered sensor network is based on the creation of multi-hop routes using intermediate nodes for each source-destination pair. Packets transmission at each node follows a Poisson distribution with assigned normalized traffic. Performances are obtained using a novel semi-analytical procedure that allows to account for multiple access interference and realistic propagation conditions. The proposed calculation procedure can be used for sensor network design based on Aloha with multi-hop as well as for analysis of an existing installation.
